Why are my ferrets gasping? How do I introduce new ferrets safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Other | Unknown - Other | Female | spayed | 2 years and 5 months old

I have 4 ferrets two 3 year olds and just got 2 10 week olds and all of my ferrets make a gasping sound and two of the bite me the 3 year old and one of the kits. I got them all from a good rescue but I don't know why they gasp. Also is it going to be possible to get them to get on with each other with slow introductions.

They are very cute. It is possible the gasping noise is them communicating and playing with each other. As long as they are eating and drinking I would not be concerned with the noise. It is possible for them to all get along. It can be a longer process. I would slowly introduce them to each other and allow them to play as they would like.
