My dog's ear mass fell off. Should I save it for the vet or freeze it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed | 14 years and 2 months old | 10 lbs

My dog has an external mass on her ear. 3 days ago it grew immense in size and started bleeding. I put a cone on her while I worked out surgery details. Today, I came home and it had fallen off! What should I do with it? Should I store it in a plastic bag for the vet? Should I put it in the freezer?! Help!

You can put it in a plastic bag sealed and in the fridge or freezer, the vet will have to remove the rest of it anyway so it is not likely that he will need the growth that fell for histological purposes.
