Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Male | neutered | 13 lbs
We have a 5 yr old havanese with onset of bloody diarrhea and vomiting since Thursday. He hardly eats or drinks. Looking at symptoms it could be IBS or viral. Suggestions?

Hello, Castro has been sick for some time now, I'm sure he is very sore and must be quite dehydrated. I would take him to the vet as a matter of urgency. He will be examined and likely need medications and possibly a drip to dehydrate him. Bloody diarrohea can be caused by many diffent types of infection causing gastroenteritis , parasites, viruses and bacteria. Like you say some bowel conditions can cause it, but the vomiting would be more indicative of gastroenteritis.

This could be hemorrhagic gastroenteritis which can cause significant dehydration and electrolyte abnormalities. Castro needs to get checked out by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Unt then offer him only small amounts of water at a time and do not give any human medications as they can make him sicker.
