Why does my new adopted cat hide? How to make her a lap cat?

I have adopted a 3yr old female. She friendly but nit very social. Likes to hide alot. I was hoping she'd be mire of a lap cat. suggestions please.. Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

Bella is a pretty girl. You don't say how long you've had her but she may just need more time. You can try bribing her a bit with cat treats, catnip or toys to come sit with you. But it could also just be her personality. Some cats are less cuddly than others. Give her some more time and try to see what she enjoys so you can use that to convince her to spend a little more quality time with you. But just enjoy her personality as she gets used to her new home. Things will change as she adjusts.
