Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 4 months old | 55 lbs

Dear, I have chow-chow 4,5 years old. First problems appear with the first change of her fur and repeats every time with her fur change, she loses a lot of hear, on some places stay without any hair, those places are different each time, sometimes her back, another time back and back legs, next time back and front legs, or back and tail. In fur change period she itches a lot, but during no fur change period she has no problems, we checked thyroid and it is normal. What do you think and thank you

From your description it sounds as though Istra becomes itching and loses patches of fur during seasonally shedding periods. It is possible that this is due to environmental allergens such as pollen or dust. There many ways to manage seasonal allergies including medicated shampoos, antihistamines and fish oil. Other things can cause hair loss and itching including infections, mange and food allergies but these problems are typically not seasonal
