What to do when my dog gets hot and anxious during car travel?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | 66 lbs

Hi doc! I need to ask you something very important! Because the summer has come, my dog became very nervous because of the warm. He is born in September and the climate here is not very hot in that period. In one month I will go on vacation with my car, and every time my dog is in the car, he is very nervous and I have to stop from 10 to 10 minutes and wait for him to cool down. I have air conditioning in my car and it's still not good enough. My question is, what should I do to cool him up?

He is most likely getting so got because he is really anxious. Firstly you could use active cooling measures such as letting him sit on a damp towel and damping him slightly with a cloth or sponge. Secondly you could take him to the vet as they may be able to prescribe meds that will help control his anxiety, and thus make him cooler.
