Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 84 lbs
My GSD tore her Achilles' tendon high in the muscle. The orthopedic gave me three options #1 repair it $5000 he gave this a 50% success rate based on dog etc. #2 $5000 fuse the bone and give her a "peg leg" but she would be able to run and support her weight 85-90% success rate 3 mos in a cast after surgery and #3 amputate the leg. I am leaning towards #2. What I forgot to ask was what would happen if we didn't do surgery??? Would the ligment heal??? Would she regain strength ?

Ouch, sorry to hear about Cocoa's injury. Unfortunately it will not heal on its own and she would always be lame on that leg. Furthermore, it puts her at risk for arthritis in that leg and stress injuries in the other legs.
