My kitten has a wound and hair patch above its lip. What happened?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 7 lbs

I dont know what my kitten got into or if it's something else but he has a good scar and hair patch somehow. We do have a bird in the home who is suspended high up. The bird normally plays dead if stressed so I'm not confident she could have inflicted this wound. They've tolerated one another since the kitty arrived. Other than that my kitty roams free and happily. His behavior is very normal. Is there any condition that could cause this, is this a wound?

Hi there, yes there certainly is a wound above his lip. Sounds can happen very easily, even if he just got caught on something, I doubt it was the bird but it is possible. I would clean the wound with salt water. If it is a superficial wound I would continue this for a few days. If the wound is deep, swollen, or looks red or pussy I would visit the vet in case of infection.
