My dog is licking a raw wound near his genitals. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bulldog | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 8 months old | 82 lbs

My dog has been licking next to his ball sack for a few days now and this morning I found this what could it be? He was also born with only one ball so just concerned it might have something to do with that.

This looks like an infected wound. It's possible Compton did this himself, meaning no trauma like a bite wound. It is unlikely to be related to his reproductive abnormality, I cannot tell what caused him to start licking this area but allergies would be a concern. Because of how deep and raw it looks I recommend having your veterinarian do an exam and Compton will likely need antibiotics and maybe steroids to help this clear. In the meantime keep his area clean and dry and have Compton wear an ecollar to prevent him from any further licking.
