Dog lethargic, low WBC, ticks: Is it tick-borne or autoimmune disease?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shetland Sheepdog | Male | neutered | 17 years and 5 months old | 70 lbs

My dog is 7 years old and a Shetland sheepdog. He all of a sudden didn't feel good (lethargic, stiff back legs, heavy panting). He stabilized the next day but I took him to the vet and he had extremely low WBC. I've only gotten the preliminary blood work. I also remove several ticks from my dog. I've done some research and this looks like it is either a tick bacteria or an immune disease. What are the likelihoods of either of these diagnoses?

When I was reading Rudi's issues my first thought was a tick borne disease such as Lyme. A tick borne disease or autoimmune disease are both highly likely. A 4dx test or tick panel should be run to see if that is what is what is causing his symptoms.
