My cat's losing fur, has scabs, and won't gain weight after deworming?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Maine Coon | Female | unspayed | 4 lbs

My cat Jazzy has recently been dewormed and she eats like normal (she loves treats as well), but she is not gaining weight, has scabs under her neck and she is losing most of her fur at the base of her tail and by her rear end. We have tried switching foods for a possible allergic reaction. This was about a month ago and still no progress on her fur growing back. She has also been treating with flea medication as well. Please help, and thank you for your time.

Jazzy could have a skin infection causing the itching and hair loss. You can try a medicated shampoo but with cats they usually need an antibiotic and possibly a steroid injection for their skin to clear up. Also depending on her age she may need blood work to make sure no underlying issues are causing her thin body condition (thyroid abnormality, kidney issues, parasites)
