My dog growls at other dogs during feeding. How do I stop this?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

Kook likes to growl at my other dog when she eats. They used to have separate bowls and this has been happening for years. They just are sharing a free feeder, and the same is still happening. My other dog never eats anymore, unless hand feed. How can I stop this?

It's very common for dogs to growl or show other types of resource guarding behavior towards other dogs when they are eating. This is probably causing stress for both dogs, so I would recommend feeding them in separate rooms or in their crates (if they are crate-trained) to avoid this problem :)
