Dog lethargic, fishy smell, mucus stool. Anal glands? Wait for vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Basset Hound | Female | spayed | 8 months and 23 days old | 40 lbs

My 9 month basset hound seems to be feeling unwell. She would not touch her normal dry food, but ate a decent amount of rice with low sodium chicken broth. She is drinking water normally. She is walking slower than normal, and is generally lethargic. Her stool has been loose with mucus in it. She was fine yesterday. She has a slight fishy smell. Could this be anal glands that need to be drained? Worried because of the mucus in her stool. Late where I am- will tomorrow be ok to take her to vet?

This could be anal gland issue. Charlie should be checked out by her veterinarian when they are open just to make sure it's not an anal gland infection. If her anal gland's are normal they will do a full exam most likely to rule out anything else that could be going on.
