Why does my dog hyperventilate and collapse after short walks?

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 28 lbs

my dog starts to hyperventilate after just a block or two and collapses on the grass I have to cary her home and she is a beagle that is 28 pounds. I give her water breaks during the walk. do you have any advice?

It is great you are trying to walk Sophie. However I would be concerned that she could have underlying disease that is causing her to collapse. This could include but not limited to heart diseae, heartworm disease, arthritis, lung issues, allergies, and weight. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for a good physical exam.

    If she is overweight, shorten the walks then gradully increase them at her pace. Have her examined by your veterianrian to diagnose respiratory or cardiac disease which would cause exercise intolerance. Avoid walks and exercise during the hottest part of the day to prevent overheating, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
