Unfortunately it is hard to tell from the picture what is going on. If her spay incision is leaking fluid I recommend taking her back to the veterinarian. Incisions can get infected and need antibiotics and I would make sure this is not going on with her.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Juno. Her skin skin appears red and irritated surrounding the incision. She has been licking or scratching it? If so, she will need to be stopped as it can lead to a secondary infection. Surgical incisions tend to ooze for the first 24 hours, but not much after that. If possible, I would have her checked earlier, especially if she is not eating, drinking or acting ill. If she is acting normally, you can stop her from licking and the discharge does not increase then she can likely wait to her scheduled appointment. I hope this information helps!

I'm glad you had Laurel spayed. It's unusual to have a discharge from the incision after a month. There may be some sutures under the skin causing irritation. It can take a month or more for them to dissolve. You are doing a good job cleaning and treating the area. Please take her back to the veterinarian if this discharge doesn't go away in a few days or she isn't feeling well. Thanks for rescuing her.

I can see that Laddu has some clear, bloody discharge from the incision, which is fairly normal. There is no swelling or color to the discharge, which is a good sign and indicates that the site is not infected. However, it is a little difficult to tell, but a small part of the incision may have opened a little bit. I recommend keeping an eye on Laddu, and making sure she wears her E-collar or “cone” so she cannot lick or chew at the area. You should continue to give her any pain medication or antibiotics she was prescribed. Your vet may want to take a look at the incision and place a small amount of skin glue to keep it closed, but this can wait until tomorrow morning as long as Laddu keeps her E-collar on at all times. I hope this helps and am happy to answer any other questions you have! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
