I would recommend not breeding her anymore and getting her spayed. It is possible that she is unable to get pregnant again. If you would like to know for sure I would take her to a veterinarian for bloodwork to check her hormone level. However with her getting older it might be time to retire her and stop trying to breed her.

It's not a good idea to mate her at her age and if the mating did not work it's just a confirmation that she shouldn't be bred anymore. i would recommend having her spayed to reduce the risks of uterine infection and mammary gland tumors.

Honestly, your best option is to spay her now if you are not planning on ever breeding her. That way she will not have puppies and you don't have to use the mismating shot which does have a lot of side effects as you have researched. Keeping her intact (not spayed) is not good for her health in the long run if she is not a breeding dog. They have higher instances of pyometra (deadly uterine infection), mammary (breast) cancer and uterine/ovarian cancers among other issues. Here is an article about this.
