My dog has an ulcer. Is 0.6ml Carafate enough for a 62lb dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 62 lbs

I think my vet gave me the wrong dosage for my dog. I have been given carafate/gastrafate for my dogs ulcer. It seems the amount is very small at 0.6 ml twice daily. My dog is 62 pounds. They did not put the dosage on the bottle and instead just put the amount

I would recommend calling your veterinarian to clarify the dose. The dose for Carafate does seem low to me but their is a very wide range for the medication. Since the veterinarian prescribed Carafate they might have a specific reason for the lower dose. I would follow the label until you can contact the veterinarian.

I am sorry to hear Tipper has been unwell and needs medications. I would agree that 0.6ml twice daily for his size seems low. Are you able to call your vet to find out the correct doseage? Without having seen Tipper myself I am not permitted to advise on dosing of medications. If you cannot contact them tonight then first thing in the morning would be fine.
