Why is my cat throwing up and losing weight? When to see vet?

My neighbour has 3 cats (it was 4, but one mysteriously died recently at the age of 2), I'm keeping an eye on them as they are in the middle of moving but found some cat sick on the floor, it looked freshly eaten and as if it had been there for a while. So, I got all the cats in and changed their water. The seem ok just very needy ATM (prob from being alone all day) and are eating, but I'm not sure if one of them felt a bit thin - is it worth having aver checking him over, will they pick up. Stress can sometimes cause a cat to vomit, however if you notice one of the cats is getting ill a lot, is rapidly losing weight, or is showing other signs of illness such as refusal to eat or drink, extreme lethargy, etc, then seeking vet care is a good idea to figure out the problem.
