My cat's bladder sand symptoms worsened on Hills c/d. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Russian Blue | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

Hello, could I ask you for help, please? My cat's been diagnosed to have sand in her bladder and prescribed a special diet (Hills c/d). First, she just had trouble urinating and did it once a day very reluctantly, but when she did, it was quite abundant. However, now she hardly discharges a few drops, she's all very subdued, has lost her appetite and scratches if i try to stroke her. But our vet says she's fine and there's less sand in the bladder. I'm worried sick. What can we do? Thank you!

I recommend an urgent recheck and urinalysis to rule out infections as well as xray to rule out large stones, referral to a specialist would be recommended given the extent of her signs. Increased fluid intake with wet c/d food, flavoured water and a water fountain are helpful and pain relief is important given the discomfort she is suffering
