Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cocker Spaniel | Female | spayed | 4 years and 5 months old | 25 lbs

My Spaniel is loosing hair below bottom lip and around nose. The top of the nose is dry and scaly. What could be causing this. I have tried a course of steroids? Thank you

Poor Toffee! The skin lesions over her lip could be a result of a skin infection, ringworm or mange. Steroids will decrease inflammation, but will not treat any of the underlying causes previously mentioned, and could make mange worse. The only way to differentiate between these causes is by taking Toffee to her vet for diagnostic testing (fungal culture, skin scrapes, skin cytology). I hope that all goes well!
