Dog paw cut too deep, now limping with mucus. How to treat at home?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old | 70 lbs

On Sunday morning, I was cutting his nail and cut one too deep. It bled a lot. I created a paste to stop the bleeding with wholemeal flour and water. We then wrapped his paw up with a towel. Through the day we changed the towel. On Monday morning (yesterday) he started limping and licking his paw excessively once we took the towel off. Today, there is white mucus around the area between two of his toes and a slight rash. What can I do to help his skin recover without going to the vet? Than

I woud soak the area in an espom salt bath 2-3times daily and leave open to the air to try and dry the skin; if redness and pain does not resolve within 48hours or he becomes more lame he will need to ab assessed for an nfection by your vet
