What do I do if a my bird ripped off it's own leg.

It would be best to seek veterinary care ASAP so that your bird can be treated and any medications such as pain meds and antibiotics given. In the future, making sure that there aren't bars or objects where the leg can get stuck and harmed can help prevent the accident from happening again in the future.

Thanks for reaching out and including photos. This does appear to be a fracture so taken to a wildlife rehabilitation society is best. They can seek veterinary care from there. For now keep warm and offer some food and water. Good luck.

If your parrot has broken his leg it is best to seek veterinary care in person immediately. They can assess the extent of the break, providing treatment for repairing or stabilizing it and provide any medications as needed such as pain meds while he recovers. Your vet can also provide you with further instruction for caring for the leg as it heals. Until you can get to your vet, moving your bird to a hospital cage that is kept warm with low, flat perches (or no perches) and food and water dishes that are shallow and easy to get in and out of may help take some weight off the injured leg until it can be treated.

Unfortunately, if the leg has turned black and isn't being used, it is possible it is very badly injured, infected, etc and may need to be amputated. Even if you don't have a bird-specific vet in your area, you will want to see if any vets nearby will at least look at the leg and prescribe medication/potential amputation as needed. At home, keeping her eating, drinking, and preventing her from picking at the leg can help, but if it is is causing her lots of pain or seems to be worsening rapidly, veterinary care in person is needed ASAP.

What can we do to help his parrot? He's acting like his leg has been hurt. We dont kno what happened , just started showing signs of it yesterday?
Remove or lower high perches. Pad the cage bottom to prevent injury if he falls. Have him examined by your veterinarian or an experienced avian vet as soon as you can get an appointment. Keep Gaylord warm and as stress free as possible until he sees the doctor.

Hello, I have a mynah bird who was attacked by a cat last night which I didn't notice the injuries till this morning . the cat seems to have got his right leg and there is blood . it is not bleeding now though . I just wanted to know what should I do
It would be best to try and get your bird into a vet as soon as you can. In the meantime, cleaning any wounds and keeping them free of dirt and debris, and keeping your bird from pecking at it can help prevent infection of the wounds. Keeping your bird warm, with low perches in case he falls, and easy access to food and water may also help until he can get into your vet.

Hopefully your bird just injured her toe nail and is a little sore. However, she may have fractured a bone in her foot when she became stuck. Hello! If your female bird is trying to escape your male bird, I would recommend keeping them separated. Frustrated and scared birds often hurt themselves attempting to escape situations. When a bird holds up their leg, it is the equivalent of a human limping and is a sign of pain. I would recommend taking her into be seen by an avian vet. They will likely recommend x-rays. The x-rays will ensure that she has no broken bones, as well as looking at her abdominal organs. Abdominal problems are a common cause of leg issues in birds because their abdominal organs are on top of their sciatic (leg) nerve. They will likely recommend an anti-inflammatory to help with her pain and make other treatment recommendations based off of x-rays and physical exam. I hope this helps! I'm sorry your birds got into a spat. First, if you haven't already, make sure they are separated. If Twitter is not using the leg, I would recommend that he be seen by an avian veterinarian. The leg could be fractured, or have extensive soft tissue injury. Since you saw blood, we know there is an open wound, and infection may be a possibility. At a minimum Twitter may need a prescription for pain medication. Keep Twitter in a warm, quiet low stress area until you can get him seen. Make sure that he is eating and drinking normally.

I have my budgie for 6 years and since then he has kind of broken leg( actually its nothing serious it was probably broken when he caught in fight with another bird). So whats process of getting his leg to normal, will it hurt him? Any possible side
If the leg is currently broken, it needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away as breaks in bird bones can lead to serious infection. If it was broken or deformed in the past but now healed, there may not be much that can be done for it, but a vet can still take a look. Otherwise, changing Parrot's environment so it is easier for him to perch, get around, get into and out of food and water dishes, etc may help.

Hi, I have a little lovebird that’s 2 months old. 2 days ago he broke his little leg, but I have to wait another 4 days to see a vet. I’m just wondering could he survive up until then?
It depends on any secondary problems and if the trauma was only isolated to the leg. If his leg is the only thing that is broken and there are no other problems, he would likely be fine until seeing the vet. However, if there is any infection or anything else going on that might put his life at risk then he may not make it. If possible, I would get him in to be seen sooner so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps!
