My bird's foot is swollen and purple. Is it bumblefoot or an injury?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 5 months and 9 days old

For acouple days now Ive noticed that Prosha doesn't sit on his right foot keeping it tight to himself, hidden under feathers. Yesterday I noticed that it looks a bit swollen, the outer part is a purplish/bluish color and now he leans more to the left side keeping the leg limp not tight like some time ago. His left foot looks normal to me. Prosha is not an active bird (new to home), can still move around cage. It's just he looks abit sick. Infection? Perhaps Bumble foot? Dont think its a bruise

I am sorry to hear about Prosha. While bumblefoot is definitely a possibility with any foot swelling in a bird, we usually see it on both feet. For this reason, I would be concerned about a possible injury (fracture even if swelling and bruising is present) or an infection or arthritis. I would recommend an exam by a veterinarian to check out Prosha's foot.
