My cat's bite or scratch wound is raw and bloody. Why so bad?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | 1 year old | 13 lbs

My cat was bitten or scratched 2 days ago and he was bleeding plenty, i left for a day and came home to his skin bloody and raw on either side of his tail. I put hydrogen peroxide and a healing ointment from the pet store right now, but how much would it cost to take him to the vet and how did it become so bad from just a small wound?

Costs depend on your area as all veterinary hospitals set their own prices. The wound likely got infected. Bite or scratch wounds from another animal often become infected and need medical attention. Another potential cause would be if Baldy is able to lick at it. The bacteria in his mouth and the constant irritation will make it difficult for that wound to heal. Good luck !
