Tapeworms are typically associated with fleas. There are over the counter deworming medications that can be used for tapeworms but if the fleas are not addressed as well the tapeworms will return. With a puppy that young most topical flea treatments are not appropriate but bathing with Dawn dish soap may help remove the fleas on your puppy currently.

Hello. Thank you for using PetCoach. Tapeworms need a special dewormer in order to treat them. It is called praziquantel. I suggest you get her to one of the VETCO clinics put on by Petco stores as they can prescribe/dispense this medication for you. ( https://www.vetcoclinics.com/services-and-clinics/clinic-locations-and-schedules/?zip=77067 ) Either take a photo of the worm or bring the worm with you so that you can get the appropriate medication. Sometimes people think they are seeing tapeworms but they are actually roundworms or hookworms and visa versa. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Not every deworming medication treats every type of worms. There is a chance that the initial dewormer that you used on Dixie did not treat tapeworms. Since she is due for her next DAPP vaccine, be sure to mention the tapeworms to her vet so they can prescribe an appropriate dewormer. Some over the counter dewormers, such as Panacur, can treat some species of tapeworms, but they do not treat all species.

You won't be able to find a tapeworm treatment over the counter so this is going to need to wait for your vet apointment (you could call them back and ask for a sooner apointment explaining the situation), you can buy an over the counter flea treatment though, Advantage spot on is safe to use on dogs from the age of 7 weeks.

Immediate flea treatment and gastrointestinal parasite treatment is required. Panacur is an excellent product, active against most common gastrointestinal parasites and safe for puppies as well. Please ask your veterinarian about appropriate flea treatment available on prescription. Hello. Without seeing the worms, it is impossible to say with complete certainty but you are probably seeing tapeworms. Tapeworms require a different medication than the normal dewormer given to puppies. They are not dangerous and are typically associated with a flea issue.. whether your pup has fleas now or before you got him. It is easily treated with an oral medication that you can obtain from your veterinarian on Tuesday. Keep in mind that tapeworms can recur and can recur frequently if there are fleas on your puppy or in his environment. Thank you for using Boop by Petco

The best tapeworm treatments contain Praziquantel. If the medication contains this active ingredient, then it appears the fleas are not under control. The best flea preventatives are oral products like Simparica and Nexgard. I hope this helps.

Hello I saw a worm in my puppy's stool .Can you recommend an over the counter dewormer for him please? I am unable to take him to a vet at this time.
Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Not sure what type of worm you saw without a picture of it. Small, whitish worms that resemble grains of white rice are tapeworms and longer worms would probably be roundworms, hookworms, or other types of worms. Tapeworms are treated with a drug called praziquantal which is available over the counter. The most common tapeworm is caused by fleas and that medicine will treat it. Follow the instructions on the product. You also want to make sure that you are using an effective flea/tick medicine recommended by your veterinarian. Round, hook, and whipworms are treated with various dewormers. You want to use something that will kill all of them. I would advise getting fenbendazole (Safeguard) and following the directions. Mix the powder with food for 3 days. If the problem still exists, contact your vet for further instruction. Good luck

Typically tapeworms can be treated with anybody worming medication that contains praziquantel . However this could just be a side effect of the poop sitting out and insects laying eggs on the poop. Deworming should not harm your dog.

It depends which type of worms but they typically have dewormers at pet stores with a dose bybeeight and directions and when to repeat but if they are tapeworms ( small like rice) then you need to provide flea prevention also

I found a white flat worm in my puppies poo just one he's 11 weeks old what do I do
It sounds like Buddy has tapeworms based on your description of the worms, and the treatment for them (praziquantel) is available by prescription only from the vet. I would take Buddy into the vet in the morning so he can get medication to treat his worms. I recommend Drontal, it contains praziquantel and is an excellent dewormer. He will need a second dose of the praziquantel two weeks after the first to kill all the worms. He should then be dewormed every month until he is six months old, and dewormed every three months thereafter. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I recommend that you have her evaluated by a veterinarian to start her on a deworming medication. It looks like this could be tapeworms but they would be able to take a look up close and decide. Then they can use the best dewormer for her. Usually treating worms is inexpensive and effective.
