My rabbit ripped spay incision tape. How to prevent it opening?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Rabbit | Female | spayed | 9 months and 1 day old | 4 lbs

My rabbits were spayed yesterday and one of then has just ripped the tape off of her insicion site. It seems to have opened a little up the top but it not bleeding. We covered It up with tape again, but I am now wondering if there is a better way to get her to stop pulling off the tape or if Rabbits are able to have false skin applied to the incision site?

I would not apply any false skin to the incision as sometimes this burns and can be really irritating which may cause her to mess with it even more. You may consider putting a small baby t-shirt on her to prevent her from chewing at the incision until Monday. At that time I would recommend to have your vet do an exam on the incision to ensure it isn't infected and to ensure it doesn't need to be reclosed.
