How to help an overly attached cat become independent for adoption?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 3 years and 3 months old | 7 lbs

Hello, my cat is an outdoor cat we took in temporarily until her kittens got weaned. Sje became instanly attached to me only, a bit scared of everyone else. She wanted me there when she gave birth and trusted me completely to manipulate her babies. They all passed away sadly, but now she only eats when I'm right beside her. However, sje is supposed to get adopted soon, and I'm worried she'll get seperation anxiety or something like that. Is there a way I can let her grow more independant? Thanks

Hi. Thank you for tak8ng care of her! You can try having others in the household feed her, with you there, clean her box, etc. When she gets adopted, you can possibly do a slow transition with the new owner, allowing the new owner to supply care with you there. This could let the cat know you trust these other people and that they are ok. She will adjust though.
