My Pit Bull has a growth in his eye corner that's growing. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Male | 3 years and 1 month old | 90 lbs

My 3 year old American Pit Bull Terrier has a growth in the corner of his left eye. I first noticed it about a year ago but each time I have asked my local vet about it they never can tell me what it might be all they say is that its nothing to worry about. However it has slowly kept on getting bigger so I was wondering if you might be able to tell me what it might be and what if anything I can do about it?

Since the mass in Duke's eye has not changed much and does not seem to cause him any problems it is probably benign. However if it is causing you worry you can always ask you vet to perform a cytology of the mass. This is where he will look at a sample of cells from the mass under the microscope and try to determine what it is. It could be a clogged or infected tear duct or just a benign little tumor. If you aren't getting the answers you want from your regular vet you can always ask for a referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist that specializes in eyes and they may be able to give you more answers. Good luck!

I would recommend that you have Rango examined by a vet. There is no way to know what a small mass is without testing it. The vet may recommend a biopsy or a needle cytology to see what kind of mass this is. Even benign (non-cancerous) masses can get large and be difficult to remove later.
