My stray cat has a head wound. Is it a scar, burn, or infection?

i'm currently visiting my grandparents for summer vacation they live out in the country and they have a lot of land and for animals to Roamevery couple of years a couple of cats will make home here and my grandparents are nice enough to feed them but since they are stray we keep them outside but we still feed them this year two black cats came in set up base here One male one female they had two kittens I was feeding the male cat I noticed he had a big scar/burn near head what is it? help

This looks like some sort of wound either from a cut such as against a fence or even from another animal. It does look infected so if he would allow you to clean it off with warm water and a little mild soap that might help. Ideally he would be given antibiotics to help this heal. However that could be very difficult with stray cats. Do not give any pain medications meant for people as they are very toxic to cats.
