My dog has dark, bloody diarrhea. Is it safe to wait for a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Rottweiler | Female | spayed | 3 years and 8 months old | 75 lbs

I have a 4 year old Rottweiler, and she has been having the runs and now it's turned into a dark brown with a little red and it's getting more frequent I have no 24 hour vets near me. Can you tell me what going on and if she has time to wait till tomorrow morning so I can take her?

Hi. I can't tell you for sure what is going on in this case without more information. If she is stable, active, no vomiting and eating, it can wait until tomorrow. In meantime, feed bland food rice and boiled chicken with small amount of canned pumpkin. If she is weak, dehydrated, pale, vomiting, etc., it can't wait. Hope she feels better soon
