My puppy's benign wart is growing. Should it be removed during neuter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 10 months and 8 days old | 90 lbs

My 10 month old lab puppy has a small growth on his left arm near his elbow. When we took him to the vet she said it was a benign papilloma wart and that we would watch it. Since then it seems to have gotten bigger. I am worried about this due to the fact that I have lost a dog to cancer in the past. She also stated that she would laser it off when we take him to get neutered in a few weeks.

Your veterinarian is most likely correct. From your photo this looks like a benign growth but it could be slightly infected which is why it looks different. It is not uncommon for these masses to get slightly raw/abrasions and have a small infection. I would consider having it removed at the time of his neuter so it will no longer pose any further issues.
