i had my female jack chi and chihuahua mix since she was 10 weeks old. She is now 3 yrs old. I became pregnant with my first child when she was 1 in a hlf. She wasnt aggressive but she did act out which is very understandable. My daughter is 2 now and she doesnt allow my toddler to pet her or play and I am very careful at all times with what my toddler is doing. She has never pulled her ears or tail because I watch them. She growls and snaps at me all the time and my daughter. Shes healthy too.

This is a very uneasy situation for everyone and is very difficult to resolve easily and unfortunately it may be worthwhile considering rehoming. A house visit from a trained behaviourist and calming supplements may help but should not be used without professional input

Your chihuahua mix is really cute. Chihuahuas becoming aggressive after a new baby or as toddler becomes more mobile and rambunctious can be very common. Chihuahuas usually only like one or two people. And children are usually very scary to them since children like to run around and make a lot of noise. I would recommend to talk to your veterinarian about whether or not she would be a good candidate for an anti-anxiety medicine. Sometimes this could help to take the edge off and make her a little less aggressive. I recommend to continue to not to leave her and your child alone together as she may accidentally bite your child. Please feel free to contact us again on the forum or set up a consult if you have additional questions or would like more information.

Having a baby can cause stress to your pets for many reasons. They did not get as much time with you, there is increased noise in the house, and when they child crawls and walks it can be intimidating to dogs. because of this behavior issues can arise. Using positive reinforcement with your dog can be a beneficial way to build up the relationship. You also may need to talk to your veterinarian about possible medications to help alleviate anxiety in Zoey. Working with a trainer may also be helpful. Sometimes these issues cannot be resolved and requires that the pet be rehomed. It is important to never leave your children alone with Zoey.
