My 4-week-old puppy won't eat. Should I socialize before vaccinations?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | unspayed | 23 days old | 12 lbs

Hi my puppy is only 4 weeks old and I'm having trouble getting her to eat. My puppy has not got her vaccinations yet, would it be okay to bring her around 2 7 year old dogs that my parents own to socialize her and hopefully get her to eat or should I wait for the vax and look into syringe feeding?

Lola is extremely cute! Congratulations! At 4 weeks of age, Lola should still be nursing. Weaning usually begins at four weeks and lasts until about 7 or 8 weeks. Given this, I would recommend bottle/syringe feeding with a puppy Milk Replacement formula until Lola is stronger and can eat regular puppy food. Bottle feeding can be tricky and needs to be done properly. Here is some information on how to feed Lola for the next few weeks: http://www.2ndchance.info/orphanpuppy.htm Finally, I do not recommend introducing Lola to any other dogs until she has received at least her first set of puppy shots at 8 weeks of age.
