Pet's info: Dog | Cardigan Welsh Corgi | Female | spayed | 6 years and 3 months old | 35 lbs
my welsh corgi has had a shoulder injury about 8 weeks now. severe limp. vets have taken radio graphs and consulted. we have used pain pills to keep her as quiet as possible and they say to give it more time. Ortho vet has been consulted and has examined her. I am still concerned. She is showing slight improvement but it just seems to be a long time. Vet said tendon/ligament strain(?) at the spinal scapula. Does waiting it out seem reasonable?

I'm sorry Lily has injured herself. If there were no bony lesions on the x-rays such as fractures or dislocations, then it seems like it may be a soft tissue injury which can take 6 to 8 weeks before any improvement is noted. If you're still concerned you can discuss with your veterinarian about referral to an orthopedic specialist or canine physical therapist. I hope she starts feeling better soon

With soft tissue injuries rest and pain control is usually the first line of therapy. Rarely if there is a long-standing injury with scar tissue or calcium deposits in the ligament surgery could be done. However there are also newer physical therapy options and alternative therapy such as lasers that sometimes are used. I would contact the specialist you consulted with if any of these options are available for your area and will be in the Best interest of your pet to regain full function.
