Dog dry eye meds started, still lethargic and barely opening eyes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 11 months old | 14 lbs

My dog was diagnosed with dry eye and started medication yesterday. He's still barely opening his eyes and is still very lethargic. Should I contact the vet again or wait and see if the meds kick in?

I recommend continuing with the medications. It can take several days to see the full effect. You can try applying artificial tears throughout the day in addition to those medications to help. If Chance's eyes become cloudy, red, has any discharge then have your veterinarian take a look as those can be signs of an ulcer.
