My cat just had kittens. Should I worry about her bleeding and fast breathing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

My cat had litter of 4 kittens on 5th of June 2017, it has been two days now and i just saw blood on the floor and her butt. I am crying for about two hours now and really worried. Why is she bleeding and breathing fast with her mouth open sometimes. She is breathing better than yesterday but still that worries me alot. She has been nursing her kids and is protective and she is eating and drinking normally and alot for the kittens I guess. Please help asap.

A certain amount of bloody discharge is normal after delivery. This can last days to weeks. If it is frank blood, Diamond should be examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER today. Check the color of her gums. They should be pink. If they appear pale, take her to the veterinarian immediately. Keep her warm and as stress free as possible until she sees the vet.
