Spayed dog recovery: When can she play, jump, and be with male dogs?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 months and 30 days old | 19 lbs

Hi we have an appointment to get my dog spayed tomorrow. From looking on a couple websites, I thought she should be fully recovered within 2 weeks. We are going away and my parents are dog-sitting in a month. I just read on a different site that she should avoid jumping up on things for a few weeks and we need to keep her away from male dogs for a month post-surgery. Will she be recovered enough to resume regular activity in a month (barring atypical complications) or do I need to reschedule?

Yes absolutely she will!! Post operative care usually involve rest for 36 hours after surgery, to wear a buster collar and to do lead walks and restrict exercise for 10 days. Other than that she will be ok no worries, in a month time she will be like nothing was happened.

Hi. Yes, she will be fully recovered within a month and back to normal activity. She will need to be kept quiet for 7 to 10 days, but she will want to be herself and act like nothing is wrong long before that. Great job doing the best thing for her getting her spayed :)
