My 9lb Pom has chronic cough. Can he take Delsym safely?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Male | neutered | 11 years and 10 months old | 9 lbs

I have an approx 9lb Pom (11yo) that coughs constantly. Per the Vet, following numerous $$$ tests and xrays, the final dx was chronic bronchitis r/t allergies and smoking around him. He's prescribed Tussigon (minimal help) but that req an $$ vet visit and $50 for the med. I've tried benadryl (again, minimal help). Can he take delsym? If so, what would the dosage be? He's a Pom, about 9lbs. Delsym=dextromethorphan 6mg/mL. How many mLs can I safely give and with what frequency?

Please consult your veterinarian for medication dosages. Legally we cannot prescribe medications or give dosages without a valid Veterinary client patient relationship. As with all allergic disease avoiding the allergen will be most beneficial for Zipper.
