Why does my German Shepherd have diarrhea, gas, no appetite after antibiotics?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Female | spayed | 77 lbs

12 year old German Shepherd, always a finicky eater, just treated for UTI with antibiotics, now has no appetite, diarrhea, and lots of gas. Diarrhea is yellow with frequent need to void (every 2-3 hours). No vomiting and gums appear normal.

These signs could be due to the recent use of antibiotics. Sometimes a bland diet such as white rice/boiled chicken helps but other times an antibiotic specific for colon issues is needed. You could try calling your veterinarian and discussing is trying a bland diet is ok or, depending on the antibiotic used, if they think further treatment is needed.
