My cat's love bites make my skin red, itchy, and puffy. Is it serious?

Hello! My Felix often gives me "love bites", which I'm trying without much success to train him not to do. Much over, the places where he bites me have slight redness and look as if I've been stung by a mosquito (a bit itchy and a bit puffy). I even asked my brother if he has the same issue, cause Felix rotates between us, but he said he doesn't. What could it be?

I am not a physician so I am not able to make any recommendations in a professional capacity as to lesions on your skin, What I can say though is that that mouth of a cat carries a tremendous number of harmful bacteria (much more than a dog), and so being bitten by a kitty carries a much higher risk of infection. I would have yourself checked out by a doctor and see if you may need some antibiotics. As for Felix's love biting, you need to be very careful not to accidentally support or encourage this behavior. As soon as he begins to do that sort of thing, simply walk away and do not continue the interaction. Any type of interaction at that point may be misconstrued by him as playing or support. I would recommend positive reinforcement during any extended period of time without biting. The use of the Feliway could also be helpful in this case.
