My dog has pyometra and looks toxic. What are her chances of survival?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 13 years and 5 months old | 40 lbs

So I took my 13 year old female Huskey to the vet today. They said she has Pyometra and looks really weak so they are building up her fluids and stuff and are going to operate this afternoon. They gave her a 50/50 chance of surviving and says she looks toxic. What does that mean? She had a high fever and I'm just scared she won't make it. :(

I'm sorry Niomie is so sick. Pyometra is an infection of the uterus where the uterus basically fills with pus and infection. Dogs can become septic from this if the toxins and bacteria get into the bloodstream or if the uterus ruptures spilling the infection into the abdomen. Surgery is Niomies best chance at survival but this can be fatal even with the best of care and surgery. Surgery will remove the source of infection, but on recovery dogs still need fluids, pain medication and antibiotics post operative ly. Hoping that she pulls through and recovers well.
