My dog has idiopathic vestibular disease. What to do if she's improving?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 38 lbs

Is there treatment for Idiopathic vestibular disease? This is day two after the disease kicked in and my dog seems to be improving. She's eating, drinking, and finally walking was stumbling just a little bit. Can my vet Marian do anything at this point or do I just continue supportive care?

If the disease is truly idiopathic then just supportive care is all that can be done. There are some medication to your veterinarian could prescribe to help Maggie feel better such as for nausea and dizziness. However if you feel Maggie is doing better sometimes just letting the disease take it's course is all that can be done. I would recommend your veterinarian at least be updated on Maggie's condition is they may want to see her for other reasons.
