Generally it's recommended to only bath a dog once a week because bathing can dry out thier skin. But sometimes they need a bath more frequently and that's ok. Use a Mild shampoo (oatmeal) not flea shampoo if she needs more frequent baths.

Giving too many baths can dry out the skin, especially when using a flea shampoo. It would be better to use a monthly flea prevention, like NexGard, Frontline, Revolution, etc which is given either orally or topically.

My dog has dry skin. I just purchased a new shampoo and lotion (Jax and Daisy) to try to soothe her skin. How often should I bathe her with these products due to her dry skin?
I would recommend starting with twice a week baths for the next 3 weeks, then you can cut back to once every 2-4 weeks for maintenance of the skin. The lotion can be given as needed : ). I would also recommend oral fish oils formulated for pets given daily. EFA3N is my top recommendation here. Fish oils are a natural anti-inflammatory for the skin. How frequently to bathe your dog will depend on their skin/coat and if they have any medical conditions. In general we don't recommend bathing more than every 2 weeks unless there is a medical reason or the dog is getting excessively dirty. A mild shampoo such as a colloidal oatmeal shampoo and creme rinse like the Epi-soothe line is a great product, or you can see what products your vet carries for general bathing.

Me and my fiance just got a dog from a friend. He has very dry skin and hair loss. However she said she gave the dog a bath twice a week. He is also developing bumps on his stomach and pelvis area.
Twice a week is WAY too many baths for a dog and likely stripping the skin and coat of their natural oils. Dogs shouldn't be bathed more often than once every three weeks or so to help keep the skin healthy. A balanced diet can help improve the skin and coat as well as using an aloe or oatmeal based shampoo to prevent irritation. As there are some raised lumps and irritation as well as the dry skin, it is also a good idea to schedule a vet visit for Charlie to make sure there isn't an underlying issue causing his skin to appear that way. Possible causes can be anything from allergies, to tumors or infections and should get checked out in person.

My dog, (10 yrs old, lab-pit mix) has extremely dry skin and now her hair is falling out. How often should we be washing her? What can we do to help moisturize her skin? We live in Florida by the way.
Hi. I would recommend bathing once every week to every other week. And i would recommend using a good oatmeal based shampoo and conditioner. Your veterinarian most likely has a great shampoo option . In addition, vit E and omega Fatty acids may help as well. These can be found at your local per store. I would not use human products.

Hello I give my dog's a both every 2 or 3 weeks and they have skin sores I don't see fleas on them and I'm using the shampoo from PetSmart in my bathing them too often
You are bathing them quite a lot, dogs coats quickly get stripped of natural oils that help the skin. I would only wash a dog every 2 to 3 months unless they are very smelly or have a skin condition requiring medicated shampoo. You could be damaging their skin barrier.

Hi there and thanks for using Boop by Petco! It is true that over bathing may cause dryness and can be irritating to the skin. However, sometimes dogs with skin allergies and bathed very frequently and it actually helps them. So you may need to monitor Bear and see if frequent bathing causes any dryness or redness to his skin. There are several products on the market that are more like dry shampoo or mousse that you could brush through Bear's coat to eliminate some of the dirt and odor. If necessary you can also bathe Bear every one to two weeks, but please do it less frequently if you notice any dryness or redness of the skin related to bathing.

I would not recommend bathing Daisy every day, as this often causes dry skin and will make the problem worse. Bathe her no more than once a month, unless she gets unusually dirty and absolutely must be bathed in between. If she continues to have unusually dry or flaky skin, it would be best to have her examined by a vet to determine what is causing the problem - she may have allergies, fleas, a bacterial or fungal skin infection, or skin mites (mange).

I typically recommend bathing no more than once every week or every 2 weeks unless there is a skin condition requiring frequent medicated baths. If Luna’s skin is not becoming dried out or irritated the frequency of bathing and the type of shampoo you are using is probably fine. If Luna is itchy, her skin is red or flakey, or if she has an unusual odor, she may have a skin condition. If this is the case she needs to have an examination done by your veterinarian to address her skin issues. Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Puppies tend to get into things and get dirty when eating or outside. I would advise spot bathing any areas that need immediate attention, but I would space out bathing as much as possible. Too frequent bathing can dry out the skin and haircoat and cause other problems. I advise getting an oatmeal shampoo without soap or detergent for maintenance bathing. Leave the lather on for 10 minutes and rinse really well. Dried shampoo on the skin and haircoat can be very irritating. I would try to space out the baths to every 4 or more weeks. You could use waterless shampoo or some bath wipes in between bathing. Good luck
