My cat swallowed a bird. Why is he lethargic and off his food?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered

our cat caught a bird in the early hours of yesterday morning (booo! This is something we try to discourage - very upsetting) and when we found him he guiltily swallowed the poor thing down. He is a very lively animal but all through yesterday and today he has been off his food and has moved very delicately around and looks a bit scraggy like he has not been cleaning himself so much. He has been sleeping a lot and sits arouns not moving too much just flicking the end his tail in a vaguely rhythm

If Rorschach is still feeling bad in the morning I would get him checked by his vet. Depending on the size of the bird and if he swallowed or whole he may have an obstruction of his GI tract or possiblility of bones causing a perforation. if he strains to defecate, begins vomiting definitely get him seen.
