My puppy jumped from my arms and is limping. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Male | 2.5 lbs

I have an 11 week old toy poodle (2.6 lbs) . We had a visitor at the house and when they went to leave the puppy became very excited. I picked him up so that he wouldn't run to the door or get stepped on and he ended up "jumping" out of my arms. I caught him mid-fall but he was moving so much he still felt and hit the floor. He yelped briefly and ran away. He is limping slightly. Not near as "excited" as he was. Is now resting. Easily arousable. Should I seek help ?

Oh poor finn!! This is such a common occurrence with young, excitable puppies. If he is just limping slightly and able to bear some weight I would just allow him to rest and give him 24 hours to see if the limping resolves. If he can't use the leg or if limping is persisting beyond 24 hours I would have a vet evaluate him. I hope we wakes up from his rest feeling better!
