Pet's info: Dog | Silky Terrier | Female | unspayed | 8 years old | 12 lbs
My silky terrier is getting older. I am debating between letting her have pups once or not. She looks young and in perfect health, but i am not sure what age is ok for them to have pups first time and if it benefits her or is dangerous. She is 7 years old. Supposedly, they live 18-20 years. Is she too old to have first kids?

Anecdotally speaking seven years seems a bit old to start a dog breeding. As they get older they tend to have problems such as difficult labor's, uterine infections as well as eclampsia. If you really want to breed your dog I recommend you discuss with your veterinarian risks specific to your dog as well as what male you would be breeding her to as that could affect her ability to have puppies naturally.
