My cat's eye lid is hard and protrudes after infection treatment.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

My cat is on amoxicilan for an infection in the tissue around his eye and in his eye - no ulceration in the eye. Before treatment, his lower lid was very puffy. Now that swelling is down, but hardened, and protrudes. I see much less inflammation, but am concerned about the hardened area. I have a call into his vet for tomorrow,, But am concerned about the hardness, wondering if he needs attention sooner. The pic with the cone is from yesterday, the other taken just now.

The eye looks fine even though it is obvious that the problem is not going away yet, this can wait until tomorrow but it needs to be lubricated with eye drops, which i would think he is on together with the amoxicillin. if he is not on any eye drops, he must be on antibiotic eye drops in order to treat the eyes, in the meantime you can apply artificial tears that you can buy over the counter, until you can take him to the vet tomorrow.
