Why is my Yorkie still sick? Vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, normal tests.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 2 years and 2 months old | 5.4 lbs

Hi. I have a 6lb Yorkie who is very sick. She's been throwing up, dry heaving, diarrhea, not eating and shaking. I've brought her to my local vet, but she seems to not be getting better. All she wants to do is sleep, he prescribed her too medications. Checked all her blood, did X-rays and everything can back normal. Please help

Hello. I am sorry that Daizee isn't feeling well. If she is vomiting and having diarrhoea, and bloodwork and radiographs were normal, this typically means she either has gastritis or pancreatitis. Both of these conditions would result in normal blood and x-rays, but cause the diseases that you are seeing. Often-times these animals need to be in hospital, on IV fluids and stronger pain meds then can be sent home. They often also need multiple medications to protect the gut, and if she is vomiting she can only get these by IV, which means she needs to be in hospital. I would recommend a visit to a 24 hour or emergency clinic if your clinic isn't open, or go back to your vet and discuss if Daizee needs IV fluids and IV medications. Good luck with Daizee!

Hi ! It sounds like Henri is having a bit of a rough time ! I think he is gradually getting better but he might need a little boost. Considering all the tests are negative, it is possible that Henri has a flare up of colitis which typically causes mucous diarrhoea with blood and inappetance and lethargy . When they pass feaces they do look like they are straining to go to the toilet, and that they could be constipated but it is just severe inflammation of the last tract of the intestine. I find that what does help a lot with inflammation and getting back on track is cortisone, an injection normally does the trick. I also like metronidazole, but sometimes it is just not enough. I would recommend that you phone your vet with an update and explain the situation I am sure they will be able to help. Also.. very important to invest in an easy to digest diet, such as Hill’s intestinal formula. Good luck !! Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach and please keep us posted on progress.
