A good way to prevent eggbinding is by making sure your budgie is on a balanced diet with enough calcium. Some people may choose to supplement with eggfood or a cuttlebone in addition to a balanced diet, especially if your budgie is actively laying. If you provide nest material, she may be encouraged to lay in there so you can watch the eggs. Laying depends on if she feels like laying eggs, if there is a male around mating with her, or if she is in season to lay eggs, and some budgies may not lay if they live alone or don't have access to a nest. It is usually pretty obvious if a budgie is laying eggs as you'll see the eggs, or may see her sitting on something for long periods of time without moving.
