Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Female | 30 lbs
My chow chow dog has a really awful breath. I checked her teeth and gums and there are no swollen areas. I asked my friends that has a chow chow pet and they said that its normal but for me its really bad and i have another dog and her breath is bad but its understandable but on my chow chow its worse. I also brush its teeth but same results. What other steps I need to do to lessen her very awful breath. Thanks for answering

Tricia is gorgeous! I have a Chow Chow as well, only she is red. I love the breed. She could have severe gingivitis causing her bad breath, or she could have a tooth root abscess causing the bad breath. It will be hard to see her mouth fully without being sedated, so I recommend having her seen by a vet. She will likely benefit from a dental cleaning, scaling, and polishing. That may help with her bad breath, and the vet can identify any dental problems she may be suffering from and can treat her for it. I would take her into a vet first thing on Monday.
